About Bartolo Language Services

A specialist teacher who takes your goals seriously

I am Andrea, a German and Italian teacher based in Edinburgh. I have taught since 2011, including as a university lecturer in Vienna and Heidelberg, and have worked full-time as a private tutor since 2018.

I help school pupils and university students turn uncertain knowledge into stronger exam performance. Adults and professionals come to make their German or Italian more accurate, natural and useful for work, relocation, travel and everyday life.

Lessons are planned around each learner’s level, goals and individual needs, combining explanations with practice, conversation and constructive feedback. My aim is not simply to help students memorise sentences and rules, but to give them a lasting understanding of the language and the confidence to use it independently.

Academic background University teaching and research

Before focussing on private tuition, I held teaching and research positions at the Universities of Vienna and Heidelberg and taught at an adult education centre in Vienna.

My university work included teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, delivering lectures, assessing examinations, supervising academic work and providing individual tuition. Working in these international academic settings taught me how to explain demanding material clearly and adapt my teaching to learners with different backgrounds and ways of learning.

I also worked as a research assistant with Special Collections at the University of Leeds’ Brotherton Library, documenting historical manuscripts. That work strengthened the close attention to language, detail and evidence that I bring to every lesson.
